FLINT, Mich. — Flint police are taking a new approach to putting a stop to prostitution in their city: they’re posting photos of alleged prostitutes and their customers on Facebook.
“When an individual is arrested, he or she will be – once they’re booked and their photo is taken, it’s a matter of public record – we are going to post it,” said Flint Police Chief James Tolbert to WJRT.
So far, the new plan is going over well with many of the people in the community.
“I think if they do that, it’s going to slow them down and make them think twice and maybe clean it up around here,” said Darren Virgo, who works on the city’s east side.
While the new policy is getting a thumbs up from many, one business owner told WJRT he’s not sure how he feels about it, since many of his customers are prostitutes.
Over the past few days, the police department’s Facebook page has received nearly 3,000 new ‘likes.’
