VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- After weeks of feeling helpless, Holly Hooper and her family are happy.
Trucking company R + L Carriers reimbursed them for losses related to a snagged power line, damaged property and a subsequent power outage. No one saw the truck actually hit the line, but it was spotted in the Bangor neighborhood.
Hooper didn't get a call back from the company when the line snapped. Two weeks later, she contacted the FOX 17 Problem Solvers. We contacted the company.
"[R + L Carriers] did more than help. They did a miracle," Hooper said.
The company's owner told the FOX 17 Problem Solvers although no one saw the truck hit the line, the company wanted to help the family.
The owner said Hooper and her family "have been made whole."
Hooper is not at liberty to say how much she was paid. However, her documented losses amount to a few thousand dollars.
cause I was just happy," Hooper recalled.
The family has been living in the dark for weeks. Now that they have the money for an inspection and a re-connection fee, Hooper hopes the power company will turn the electricity back on soon.
A representative for the Michigan Public Service Commission said even if the truck hit the line, it may be the power company's fault. That's because the electrical line was reportedly drooping, but the line needs to be maintained at a certain height.
