PORTAGE, Mich. -- Friday night car crash in Portage left a 10-year-old dead and family and friends in shock.
Faith Hall’s father was driving when a 24-year-old driver pulled out in front of them at an intersection at Lakeview Drive and Portage Road. Friends say the family traveled through the intersection every day.
Ashley Tinney babysat Faith and her two brothers for years, and Ashley became very close with Faith almost immediately.
“Faith and my little sister is both autistic, so I was drawn to her," said Tinney. "I just understood her because she's had difficulty explaining things to people."
Ashley couldn't give her last parting words to Faith, because she was killed in a tragic crash. Faith was riding in the front seat with her father.
“I was downtown last night with a couple of my friends," said Tinney about how she found out about Faith's death. "My mom called me at 1:30 in the morning. I just stopped immediately, and we all just started breaking down crying,”
Faith's father was left with a broken collar bone, and Faith died at the hospital.
According to Faith’s obituary, she was a student at Schoolcraft Elementary School in Kalamazoo County and Woodsedge Learning Center.
Ashley, like so many other community members, have been making meals or contributing to the family’s GoFundMe account.
“I am going to miss her a lot,” said Tinney.
There was no alcohol or speed involved in the accident, and all parties involved were wearing seat belts. The accident is still under investigation. If you have more information, please call the Portage Public Safety Department
Visitation will be held Monday evening at Langeland Family Funeral Home in Portage, and funeral services will be Tuesday morning at Portage Free Methodist Church. Family members are asking any memorial contributions be directed to Woodsedge Learning Center.
