GRANDVILLE, Mich. -- November 15th - opening day of firearm deer season in Michigan - is as close to a holiday as you will find in this state, and Cabela's is ready to assist the thousands of hunters who hope to bag a big buck.

While most would only think of stopping at the outdoor superstore before they head into the woods, a post-hunt visit may be in order for successful hunters. On November 15th the Michigan DNR will host a deer check station at the Grandville store on 44th Street from noon 'til dusk. Hunters who have their deer tagged will get a free Cabela's cap and be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card.

Once the big buck is bagged, the question is: what to do with the meat? You can try to break it down yourself, but deer are very large and that can be more than the average person can handle, so why not take it to Byron Center Meats? Steve Sytsma is BCM's 3rd generation owner and says they can can have meat processed and on the table within a few days. While steaks, chops and burger are possible, many of his customers go for summer sausage, jerky and hot sticks.
