WEST MICHIGAN -- Rylee's Ace Hardware employee Kevin Groot said customers started buying items in preparation for the winter weather in early October.

Groot said winter supplies are flying off the shelves.

Salt, shovels, scrapers, snow blowers and hats are obviously the popular items. Groot said the salt supply ran low last year.

"Salt has been a commodity that's been really hard to get a hold of. Last year we found ourselves going down to Ohio, Indiana to bring salt up and make sure we had supplies for everybody," Groot said.

This winter, he said the store has made sure to have enough winter-related supplies in reserve as demand picks up.
