Michigan soldier killed in combat

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WGHP)— A 31-year-old Green Beret from Michigan who served two tours of duty in Iraq has been killed in fighting in Afghanistan, according to WTVD-TV.

The Pentagon announced Saturday that Sgt. 1st Class Michael A. Cathcart died Friday in Kunduz Province from small arms fire.

Cathcart was born and raised in Bay City, Michigan.

The Bay City Times reported that Cathcart enlisted in the Army in 2001. It says he served in Iraq in 2003 and 2005 and volunteered for Special Forces in 2007.
