RIVERBANK, California- A family in California recently made a grave discovery in their new backyard; more than a dozen old tombstones.
“I immediately thought we bought a cemetery,” Amy Buenrostro told KTXL, “are my dogs going to bring me back a finger?”
Buenrostro and her husband called authorities to tell them what happened, but say they had a hard time finding someone who believed them.
“The first deputy that came out, he thought we were joking with them, because we still had Halloween decorations up,” said Buenrostro.
Turns out, those headstones were misprints that the previous owners bought and used as stepping stones.
Deputies can’t remove the stones, since they’re now the property of the Buenrostro family. The new owners say they’ll hold on to the stones until they’re claimed by loved ones.
