Watch snow take over a West Michigan school (webcam)

ADA, Mich. — The snow piled up around West Michigan in a big way over the last week, as we set a new record for snowfall in the month of November (officially 29 inches and counting in Grand Rapids).

A good way to look back at the process of that snow taking over our area is by watching a time-lapse of the WeatherBug Network webcam at Goodwillie Environmental School in Ada.  Watch one shot from each day starting on the 13th, as the snow first dusts the grass, then covers the ground, and finally hangs down from the roof until it covers the camera completely:

One of the unique elements of lake-effect snow is shown in the shorter animation from Thursday morning.  Here, that overhang of snow gradually encroaches on the image, while the weather conditions alternate between sunshine and snow squalls:

I’m sure many people in West Michigan can relate to that feeling over the past week as the snow gradually closed us in.  But at least we’re not in Buffalo, right?

Now, can someone please clean off the webcam?
