ALMENA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 20 year-old man from Mattawan was arrested Saturday in relation to a string of home invasions in Van Buren County.  The break-ins took place Saturday afternoon at two separate residences in Almena Township.

A victim of the first break-in was able to provide police with a description of the suspect’s vehicle which included “unique markings”.  After a description of the vehicle was broadcast by the original responding officer, another officer, who was actually responding to a second home invasion nearby noticed a car in his vicinity that matched the description provided by the original victim.

The officer was able to make contact with the suspect in the vehicle and eventually located “tools used in the home invasions, stolen personal property, and stolen handgun ammunition”.

While interviewing the suspect, the man admitted to the crimes- two separate home invasions.  The man is being lodged at Van Buren County Jail on 3 felony charges:

  1. Home Invasion (or Attempt) of an occupied residence (1st Degree)
  2. Home Invasion of an unoccupied residence (2nd Degree)
  3. Felon in possession/transporting stolen firearm ammunition

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is considering these cases closed but is still investigating the suspects involvement in other crimes.
