GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – While many people are looking forward to a Thanksgiving feast, many others will be without a meal of any kind on Thursday.

In an effort to join the fight against hunger in North America, Barfly Ventures is partnering with Will Play for Food Foundation (WPFF) to raise money for meals.

Anyone who visits Grand Rapids Brewing Company, HopCat, Stella’s Lounge or McFadden’s tonight will be able to donate.

Organizers say the ‘cover charge’ is voluntary.

“The $5 usually would provide 50 meals,” explained Jay Riggs, the executive director of WPFF. “A dollar provides 10 meals. We have a corporate matching sponsor this month, so we’re gonna be able to double that. So a $5 donation is actually going to provide 100 meals. Ten dollars will give people a wristband and they’ll be able to go to all four locations and that will provide 200 meals.”

Riggs says most people don’t realize one in five children goes to bed hungry every night and an event such as this gives people an opportunity to have fun and gain some knowledge.

“In the greater western Michigan area that’s about 60,000 children,” Riggs said. “We’d love for them to become aware, maybe help out a little bit with the situation.”

One hundred percent of donations collected at the door will fund the WPFF meal program.
