LANSING, Mich. — Over the Thanksgiving weekend, three people died in traffic crashes in Michigan, a notable drop from previous years, said Michigan State Police in a release.

In 2013, twelve people were killed in accidents over the holiday weekend, which sees one of the highest rates of travel of all weekends in the calendar year.

The figures apply to crashes that occurred between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26-30.

The MSP release pointed to two state efforts over the weekend: Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), which was funded by funds from the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, and the public awareness campaign that urged drivers to “Give thanks. Drive safely.”
