KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — A man’s attempted escape from the Kalamazoo County Jail came to a swift end Thursday after he grabbed the wrong keys from a guard.

According to a release, the 35-year-old was being escorted to a different cell at about 10:20 a.m. when he shoved a corrections officer and grabbed their keys.  He attempted to use those keys to open the jail’s doors, only to realize the keys did not work.

Corrections officers do not carry keys to the exterior doors of the jail, according to the sheriff’s office.  The man is a pre-trial detainee and his identity will be released when he is formally charged.
