travis-charles-stiehlGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Travis Stiehl was sentenced to 30 years in prison Tuesday for making child pornography at his mother’s daycare facility in Lowell.

Federal prosecutors dropped seven other counts of producing child porn and one count of possessing more than 2,000 images and videos of child porn as part of the plea agreement.

“I view him as a major threat,” Chief United States District Judge Paul L. Maloney said in a release. “A more horrific crime short of death is hard to imagine. Children were dropped off at a daycare facility and were victimized by one of the occupants of the home. The victimization and the wreckage here is monumental to multiple families.”

“I view him as a major threat,” said Chief United States District Judge Paul L. Maloney. “A more horrific crime short of death is hard to imagine.” …… There can be MUCH WORSE things short of death. Ariel Castro kidnapped Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina DeJesus and held them against their will in his house for 10 years. This judge’s belief is similar to most people’s especially inmates in penitentiaries. Inmates feel that sexually abusing a child is worse than killing somebody. The sexual abuse of a child is horrific, and should never happen, but at least the child is still alive. When somebody kills somebody else, he takes away the most precious thing they have: their LIFE. This is the ultimate violation of another person’s rights. The killer took away that person’s right to enjoy the rest of their life. To me, killing somebody is WORSE than sexually abusing a minor. But not to most inmates. In prisons, they leave murderers alone but beat, stab and even kill child molesters. I believe this is barbaric thinking. I guess that criminals think that homicide is okay.

He produced pictures? Why is that illegal? Citizens shouldn’t be locked up for taking pictures of the nude human body, assuming that’s what has happened here, and he should never have faced the possibility of charges for possessing 1s and 0s of digital data that are used to create 2-dimensional arrays of dots on a screen to depict sexual activities that someone disapproves of. What a crime.

I’m not sure if you’re being serious. If you are, it’s scary then that you think “1s and 0s” producing “2-dimensional arrays of dots” that depict nude children in a sexual way is in any way OK. Regardless of that, the fact that you don’t think it should be illegal doesn’t mean anything. It’s not legal and he broke the law. I don’t see why I shouldn’t be allowed to drive 90 down the street but I wouldn’t use that as a defense if I got pulled over for speeding.
