BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A man who had been on the run since Sunday night was captured without incident Wednesday afternoon in Battle Creek.

At 11:40 p.m. Sunday, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department deputies attempted to stop a 2004 Silver Pontiac Grand Prix in the 20000 block of 11 Mile Road. The driver — later identified as 28-year-old Keith Edward Worthington — fled on foot into a wooded area. Deputies believed the suspect may have had a handgun.

An extensive search was completed late Sunday night and early Monday morning with the help of a K-9 unit from the Sheriff’s Office, but Worthington could not be located.

Calhoun County detectives believed his vehicle had been involved in nearly a dozen burglaries in Bedford, Convis, Eckford, Fredonia, Marshall and Tekonsha townships.

Detectives searched the car and found jewelry and electronics stolen during a burglary in Marshall Township.

Detectives had been searching for Worthington since then and had asked the public for helping finding the fugitive.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Worthington was taken into custody and is being held at the Calhoun County Jail. Detectives and members of the Michigan State Police Fugitive Team had been working for several hours Wednesday searching different locations for Worthington. Members from the Fugitive Team then spotted Worthington walking on Highland Boulevard near 23rd Street in the city of Battle Creek.

Worthington surrendered immediately without incident.

Police said information from the public directed officers to the area where Worthington was located.
