GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Calvin College was placed under a precautionary, temporary lock-down early Friday morning, as police searched for a suspect in an attempted unarmed robbery.

The incident happened near the campus shortly after midnight.  The Grand Rapids Police Department tells us there was no gun used in the robbery.

Calvin College alerted students, and passed along a statement detailing their response.

At 12:17 a.m. on Friday, December 12, Calvin sent out an emergency notification that the campus was in lockdown. Students were asked to seek an area of safety and to secure themselves and others inside, and to await instructions.

At 1:51 a.m. Calvin issued an ALL CLEAR that explained the Grand Rapids police had tracked a robbery suspect across campus. The area has been checked and the campus is clear. Campus safety coordinated well with the Grand Rapids police and GRPD will be the ones to communicate specifics about the incident and the perpetrator. We are grateful for the physical safety of all.

Police did arrest one person, but it was on an unrelated charge.  They did not provide specifics.
