Ottawa County homeowner discovers fatal rollover crash in yard

CROCKERY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An early morning one-car rollover left a man dead Friday.

Caleb John Schmidt, 23, of Spring Lake Village, was alone in the vehicle that rolled in the 10900 block of Leonard Road, said the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was discovered by the owner of a home at 10979 Leonard road around  5:38 a.m., just east of 112th Avenue.

Schmidt’s Chevrolet S-10 had pickup failed to make a curve, going straight instead. The truck went into a ditch, struck several trees, and rolled over.

Schmidt was partially ejected from the truck and was declared dead at the scene.
