MUSKEGON, Mich. -- Christopher Miller is a well-versed criminal who U.S. Marshals say knows how to avoid capture and is even willing to steal from his own family to get by.

At just 26 years old, Miller is wanted statewide after running from police in cars and on foot, putting both the public and law enforcement in danger.

“Mr. Miller started his, I’ll call it a mini crime spree, but he started in November of 2011 in Escanaba,” U.S. Marshals Task Force Supervisor Steve Hetherington said.

In the upper peninsula Miller began making a name for himself in the worst kind of way after being pulled over for a traffic stop and running and escaping police.

He then continued his crime spree in 2012 in Muskegon, and when police responded Miller again fled on foot.

Hetherington says authorities soon realized the break-in wasn’t random.

“He and a friend were attempting to rob Mr. Miller’s sister so he was robbing his own sister’s house, that’s how desperate Mr. Miller is," Hetherington said.

That wasn’t the end of Miller’s unlawful ways.

“Warren police department tried to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation and he fled in the vehicle and it was a high-speed pursuit,” Hetherington said.

It's a potentially deadly situation, as we saw this week when Ingham County Sheriff’s Deputy Grant Whitaker was killed during a high-speed chase.

“The vehicle is like a speeding bullet, it’s an 80 mile an hour or a 100 mile an hour speeding bullet that weighs more than two tons and obviously this week we saw what that can lead to,” he said. “It’s very, very dangerous for the public and the officers that have to pursue.”

Miller has ties to the Muskegon and Detroit areas, which is where authorities believe he may be hiding.

He has two felony warrants for his arrest: one from state police, the other from Warren police, along with at least five misdemeanor warrants.

Hetherington says Miller was working at a lumber company in Escanaba and a building or landscaping company in Warren.

“He stole a (license) plate from his employer and was using it on the vehicle he fled on as well after giving his employer a false name and identifiers as well,” he said.

Working under the alias Christopher White with a fake birthday and social security number, Miller's crime spree seemingly began with a suspended license.

As the charges add up, so did the desperation.

“We don’t know if he has a weapon at this time, but yeah, we prepare for the worst and hope for the best,” Hetherington said.

Christopher Lee Miller is 5’6” 135 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

He has ties to both the Muskegon and Warren areas.
