LANSING, Mich. -- "Jesus is Lord" and "Merry Christmas" were written on poster boards held by two protesters outside of the state capitol. The men held the signs in opposition to a satanic display.

The controversial display has drawn a lot of attention.

FOX 17 first told you about the display called 'snaketivity' last week. The Satanic Temple of Detroit set it up on the capitol's front lawn Dec. 21.

News of the display even caused controversy for legislators last week as they tried to pass a bill on road funding.

Christians worldwide display the nativity scene every year around Christmas time. The nativity depicts Jesus Christ's birth.

Today, protestors who are against the satanic 'snaketivity' display expressed their First Amendment rights as well.

The gentlemen FOX 17 spoke with said once they heard about the evil display, they had to counter the message.

"We've been out here all day to let people know that the reason for the season is Jesus Christ and that when you say 'Merry Christmas', it's Merry Christ-mas, and that's why we're here," Ken Struble of Charlotte said.

Someone also set up a traditional nativity scene on the other side of the capitol lawn in response to the 'snaketivity' display.
