GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A 26 year-old Byron Center man was pulled from his vehicle Wednesday afternoon after it had struck a tree and just moments before the car burst into flames.

Around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, officers from Kent County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single car accident on 100th S, west of Homerich Avenue.

When they arrived on scene they found the man’s vehicle had at some point left the roadway and run into a tree.  Just after the collision, witnesses to the incident helped the man out of his vehicle.  Just moments after the man was safely out of his car, it became completely engulfed in flames.

The man was the only occupant of the vehicle and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor, and the crash remains under investigation.
