ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A tanker struck an Interstate 196 overpass causing damage at 64th Avenue and eastbound I-196 in Zeeland Township on Friday.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, minor damage was done to the bridge, which shut down the right lane of eastbound I-196 while the crash’s aftermath was cleaned up.

The Michigan Department of Transportation was called in for repairs to the overpass and surrounding area.

The tanker was a storm water removal truck and the driver had forgotten to lower the tank after raising it.

The driver of the tanker was the only one involved with the accident and was not injured. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said the driver was a 42-year-old man from Montague.
