GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Calder Plaza is playing host to the 2015 Subway Hot New Year's Eve Party organized by Cumulus.

Marcus Bradman from Cumulus said that the new venue will allow for easier traffic flow and more space for party-goers.

The ball was lit at 7 p.m. with the first band taking to the stage shortly after.

The Grand Rapids Police Department said that it has increased security in the area, including more surveillance cameras downtown. Police also warn drivers to be responsible and not drive intoxicated.

Consumer's Energy also returned this year with their warming tent. Inside the tent, party-goers can not only stay warm, but also enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.

"We've been planning this for months. We've been working very closely with Cumulus Media who are the organizers of the event. We've been here for five years now. We are sponsoring the warming tent. Come out and get a cup of hot chocolate," said Roger Morgenstern with Consumer's Energy.

Parents who came to the New Year's Eve celebration with their children also said that they felt safe during the event with the presence of police.

"It's very family friendly. It's easy, great people. You know, it's a great atmosphere. I think it brings out the best in people," said parent Donna Wollen.
