GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Last week's blast of severe weather caused plenty of problems for residents in West Michigan.  Snow piled up on sidewalks, bus stops, and other areas making it hard to get around.

While a lot of snow has been cleared, it's  just a matter of time before the next snow storm hits. That's why Kent County Emergency Management is asking folks to become Shoveling Snow Angels, helping clear snow from driveways, sidewalks, and curb cuts.

But that is not all.

"If you have a bus stop shovel the bus stop ... make sure the fire hydrant is clean," says David Bulkowski, Executive Director at Disability Advocates of Kent County.

But when the snow is clear, the work is not done. " When this stuff starts to melt away, you have to make sure your storm drains are clean, because when  it starts melting, that is when the ice jams. Then you get flooding," says Bulkowski.

It's easy to become a Shoveling Snow Angel.  All you have to do is give your time and a little bit of elbow grease to remove snow on your property and nearby areas like a fire hydrant. You can do the work on you own, or individuals interested in volunteering as a  Shoveling Snow Angel can express interest in volunteering on http://www.hwmuw.org/ or http://www.mygrcitypoints.com/.
