GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The mail and print services building at Calvin College was closed Wednesday after a threatening letter containing an unidentified powder substance was discovered.

The substance was tested by investigators and determined not to be a threat, and the college announced just before 2:50 p.m. Wednesday that normal operation were resuming on campus.

No other buildings on campus were impacted.

Two other West Michigan schools also received suspicious letters in Wednesday’s mail. Bowen Elementary School in Kentwood received a letter with a bomb threat and a powdery substance inside, which turned out to be crushed cold medicine, while Godfrey Elementary School in Wyoming also received a suspicious piece of mail.

Both schools were evacuated and cleared after searches with assistance from the Wyoming Police Department, Wyoming Fire Department, and Kentwood Fire Department.
