FAIRPLAIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Two Greenville residents were injured Wednesday morning in an accident after losing control of a vehicle due to weather conditions.
At 11:18 a.m. Wednesday, the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a rollover crash on Grow Road south of Carson City Road. The single-vehicle crash involved a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup southbound when the driver lost control due to snow on the roadway. The truck swerved to the left, rolling down an embankment and coming to rest on its top submerged in a swamp.
The vehicle then broke through ice and a large part of the passenger side was under water.
The driver, a 23-year-old man, was thrown from the pickup, and the passenger, Darain Newman, 22, was able to get out of the vehicle on her own. Both are Greenville residents.
The driver was transported with critical injuries to Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville and later flown to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. The passenger also was transported to Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville, where she was treated for minor injuries and later released.
Neither was wearing a seat belt, and the crash remains under investigation.
The driver’s name is being withheld until relatives are notified.
