RIVES JUNCTION, Mich. — A base jumper has died, after police say his parachute failed to open, after he jumped from a news station tower.

According to WLNS in Lansing, the incident happened Wednesday evening on property owned by WLAJ-TV north of Jackson.  WLNS reports the base jumper managed to gain access to the gated area, scale the 1,000-foot high transmission tower, and jump off.

However, the man’s parachute failed to open, and he was killed in the fall.  Police are treating the death as accidental.
