DETROIT — Possibly the best pitcher in the Major League Baseball free agent pool now has a new home.  Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer has reportedly signed a contract with the Washington Nationals.

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the deal is for seven years and is worth more than $180 million.

Scherzer, now 30 years old, had a career-high 262 strikeouts with the Tigers last season.  He had turned down a six-year offer that would have been worth $144 million to stay in Detroit.
