PAW PAW, Mich. — An elderly Portage, Mich., man may have had a medical problem when a semi rear-ended his slow-moving car Monday night.

Eugene Howard, 83, or Portage, Mich., was alone in the car, which was sent off the road. Howard man died at the scene. His death may have been related to a medical problem and not the collision.

The incident took place around 11:25 p.m. on eastbound I-94 near mile marker 58 in Paw Paw Township. Howard’s car was moving slowly when the semi hit it from behind. The car sent into deep snow, and even though passersby and officers got to Howard quickly and attempted CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived.

Neither alcohol nor drug use is suspected in the accident, which is still being investigated.
