SPRING LAKE, Mich. — One person was injured after veering off the road and hitting a utility pole Tuesday.

At 5:01 p.m. Tuesday, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene of a one-vehicle crash where William Berns, 50, of Spring Lake was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer eastbound on Savage. Berns then veered across the westbound lanes and hit a utility pole on the northeast corner of the intersection.

Berns was transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said an unknown medical condition prior to the crash caused Berns to veer into the oncoming lanes.

Traffic on Savage in both directions was closed for more than an hour while utility crews evaluated the pole and wires.
