IONIA, Mich., -- Chris Jammer and Eric Geister have been calling the roof of Olivera's Sports Pub and Grill on Dexter Street home since Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The pair plans to stay there until Friday at 6 p.m. to raise money and awareness for families struggling to stay warm this winter.

The first annual "Roofsit 4 Warmth" will benefit non-profit EightCAP, Inc. and its 10th annual "Walk for Warmth" on February 28. The group helps residents to stay warm with assistance with shelter, energy bills, and materials to stay warm in Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, and Montcalm counties.

The two men, both part of local union IUE-CWA 84436, have a goal to raise $8,443.60, representing the union's number.

"We're trying to do our part as a labor organization and give (EightCAP Inc.) a nice big boost and help some folks out in the community," said Jammer, vice president of Local IUE-CWA 84436. "We're camping out for two nights to show people that we mean some business and that people struggle with the cold."

As of Thursday afternoon, the pair had raised more than $3,500. Donations are being collected in a basket that Jammer and Geister lower to the ground, inside Olivera`s Sports Pub and Grill at 119 S Dexter Street in Ionia, Mich.) and online via a GoFund Me page.

All the money raised is being matched by Consumers Energy.

Donations are being accepted up to the 10th Annual Walk for Warmth at the Ionia County Commission on Aging on February 28. To learn more about the event, click here.
