Arrest made after threat with ax on Rapid bus

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man was arrested within minutes after threatening a Rapid bus driver with an ax Wednesday evening in Grand Rapids.

At 5:46 p.m. Wednesday, the Grand Rapids Police Department responded to a report of an intoxicated person with an ax threatening a Rapid bus driver on Michigan Street at Barclay. Police told FOX 17 NEWS that the suspect got off the bus at 5:47 p.m.

The suspect was described as a white male in his late 50s with a large backpack, a gray beard, and a slight build.

GRPD staged an AMR ambulance at the scene but nobody was injured.

Officers immediately spoke with the bus driver and soon thereafter they arrested a 51-year-old white male for felonious assault near Michigan and Barclay shortly after he got off the bus.

The incident remains under investigation by the Grand Rapids Police Department.
