WEST MICHIGAN — Aquinas College hopes to win a $100,000 grant from “Stanley Security.” Grand Valley State University is hoping to win a $200,000 grant.

“Stanley” sells products like surveillance cameras. The company’s grant initiative is called “Together for Safer Schools.” It’s competitive. Colleges and universities across the country are competing for the grant.

In a nomination statement on the company’s website, GVSU police chief Renee Freeman said the grant would allow the university to “upgrade existing systems and install new ones…”

There will be three winners, based on school enrollment numbers. GVSU and Aquinas are in two different categories. Anyone can vote once per day by texting, tweeting or going to the company’s website.

GVSU is currently in third place on the “Leaderboard.” Aquinas is in second place in its category.

Chief Freeman didn’t return any of FOX 17’s calls for comment on the grant and the last minute push for votes. The station was told she was in meetings all day.
