GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Some of the coldest air of the winter is on the way just in time for a busy weekend, in which many people in West Michigan will likely be going out to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

An area of low pressure will move through the Great Lakes late Friday into early Saturday, with a shot of Arctic air arriving in its wake.  Temperatures will be dropping during the day Saturday, with lake-effect snow developing generally west of U.S. 131.

Winds will also be picking up and shifting to the northwest, so as temperatures dip into the single digits and then below zero in many spots Saturday night, wind chills will likely fall somewhere between -15° and -25° Saturday night into Sunday.

Lake-effect snow will gradually let up, but bitter cold will linger into early Monday, with no significant warmup anytime soon.  Temperatures look to remain below average throughout next week.
