WEST MICHIGAN — With wind chill advisories and “feels like” temperatures running -15 to -25 degrees and air temperatures at or below zero, many of us are waiting for a warm up…a thaw. It could come later this weekend.

Our forecast models are showing the possibility of a strong low pressure system developing in the southern United States and dragging up Gulf moisture and warm air in to the Great Lakes either Saturday or Sunday. Each newer model run is a little different on timing, strength, and type of precipitation, but most are hinting toward a brief warm up this weekend.

The last time we had temperatures above freezing was on February 11 when Grand Rapids reached 33. In fact, we’ve only had temperatures at 30 or better four times this month! The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) is still forecasting colder temperatures on average to finish off this month. Click here to see their outlook.

So even though we may experience a very brief thaw this weekend with the possibility of some type of mixed precipitation, I would expect it to be brief. Click over to www.fox17online/com/weather for the complete forecast! The photo attached to this story is courtesy of Kevin James.
