TRUFANT, Mich. - The USA Ice Team is practicing for the world championships right here in West Michigan, spending days at a time on the ice while mastering the art of angling.

The World Championships is taking place in Finland this March, giving team USA a little bit of time to practice on the ice.

Chas Thompson, USA Ice Team Spotter, said they're taking advantage of the great fishing in Michigan for their practice.

"We're gonna play some heats of first to 25, and how many fish can you get in an hour," said Thompson.Since the world championships is determined by total weight caught, team USA is catching as many fish as possible.Repeatedly drilling holes and dropping their lines, practicing in hopes of taking home the gold like they did in 2010.

"We're going to be in the medals, and Europe is really going to wake up," said Thompson. "They're gonna say, 'those guys from the Midwest can catch a lot of fish'."

If you think you've got what it takes to be on the USA Ice Team, tryouts are being held next weekend in Rhinelander, WI.
