WEST MICHIGAN – The polls have closed and votes are being tabulated for the February election here in West Michigan.

In Muskegon County, voters decided not to support a funding initiative to help fix crumbling roads and bridges.  The measure would have generated an extra $6.75 million dollars in the first year alone, and additional funding over the next 10 years.  The proposal failed by a nearly 2-1 margin. A White Lake Fire Authority millage also failed.

In Kalamazoo Township, voters approved a 10-year bond proposal that will help generate $9.75 million dollars to help improve the area roads.  The county says 73-percent of the townships roads are considered in fair to poor condition.

The Zeeland Public Schools‘ $53.5 million dollar bond proposal was approved by voters in Ottawa and Allegan counties. The new money will help address safety, security, technology, and building maintenance. The district is projected to grow by an additional 500 students in the next five to eight years. The owner of a $100,000 home an estimated additional $47 more.

In Montcalm County and a small sections of Kent and Newaygo counties, voters narrowly approved a sinking fund millage in Tri-County Area Schools looking to help the district make improvements on safety and security for students and staff in the district.  It will cost the owner of a $100,000 home an additional $75 dollars a year for the next five years.
