COOPERSVILLE, Mich. – A Coopersville family welcomed a set of twins to the world on Jan. 19, when one boy was born with a rare disease called severe combined immunodeficiency disease (SCID). This twin needs a bone marrow transplant.
Parents Kala and Phill Looks said their two newborns, Colton and Levi, are little miracles. Two and a half weeks after birth, Levi was diagnosed with SCIDs, which essentially means he has no immune system.
Thursday, Feb. 26, Accurate Truck and Field Service is hosting a bone marrow drive for Levi. The drive will be held at the shop, located at 4525 Clay Ave. in Grand Rapids on Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. Anyone that comes will receive a free cheek swab to see if they are a match for Levi.
To participate, you must be in good health and between the ages of 18 and 44.
