DORR, Mich. -- Investigators have confirmed three people are dead after a mobile home fire Tuesday in Dorr.
According to the Allegan County Sheriff's Department, the fire was reported at about 1:11 p.m. in the 2300 block of Briarwood Street.
Two children and an adult were killed, according to police.
Family friends confirmed to FOX 17 the victims were a 10-year-old boy, 13-year-old girl and their mother. Both of the children were students at Hopkins, according to school officials.
Their names will be released pending notification of all family.
"This is obviously a very traumatic event, a true tragedy," said Undershiff Frank Baker with the Allegan County Sheriff's Department.
A woman on the scene told FOX 17 her daughter lived in the home and feared she was one of the victims. She said two kids lived at the home but they were unsure of their whereabouts following the fire. They had not been seen at school Tuesday, said one neighbor.
The fire is being treated as suspicious, according to Baker. Officials obtained a search warrant to investigate the property. Crews plan to be back on scene Wednesday morning to continue their investigation into the cause.
"It's just a matter of protocol and procedure that when we do have a fatality like this and obviously something very serious we want to make sure we're investigating this properly and doing so now before any possible evidence could be lost," Baker said.
