Suspect loose following armed robbery at Kent County Credit Union

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Kent County Credit Union was held up by an armed gunman Saturday morning.

Police responded to a report of an armed robbery in progress at Kent County Credit Union, in the 1600 block of Plainfield Ave. NE, just after 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

The suspect entered the credit union brandishing a short-barrel shotgun  and announced that it was a robbery and demanded cash.  An undisclosed amount of cash was placed into a black bag carried by the suspect.

The suspect is being described as “a white male, 5’6″ – 5’8″ tall, with a medium to large build”.  He was wearing a black hooded parka, black pants and tennis shoes.  He attempted to conceal his identity with sunglasses and a scarf wrapped around his face.

An undisclosed amount of money was taken in the hold-up, and the suspect is currently still on the loose.

I-96 WB was shut down for a short time around 10:30 a.m. Saturday while a vehicle thought possibly connected to the robbery was pulled

over and investigated.  No word yet on if the vehicle or it’s occupants had anything to do with the robbery.
