IONIA, Mich. — Independent Bank is partnering with Sparrow Ionia Hospital to better meet their fundraising goals.

The hospital’s capital campaign has raised $675,000 of it’s $1.2 million dollar goal, and hopes to raise $100,000 of the remaining funds through it’s partnership with Independent Bank. In a press release issued this week, bank officials said the Inspired Community Care Challenge will run through June 14. That’s also the day the hospital opens.

“This is a commitment not only to a state-of-the-art hospital, but to the community we’ve been proud to call home since 1864,” said Brad Kessel, Independent Bank’s president & CEO. “There’s no overstating the importance of high-quality local healthcare, so we feel there’s no better investment we can make in Ionia, and we hope to match a full $50,000 donation from the community.”

The new hospital will replace the current 60-year-old Sparrow Ionia Hospital and cost $25 million to complete.

The project broke ground in April 2014. The hospital will be the first LEED certified building in Ionia County, and will also be the first in the Sparrow Health System. The hospital will include 22 inpatient beds, expanded outpatient services, a 12-room emergency department and a surgery department with suites twice the size of those in the current hospital. The hospital will be roughly 63,500 square feet and is the first new hospital in Mid-Michigan in decades.

“This hospital will have the most significant impact of any investment in Ionia County over the past 25 years,” said Bill Roeser, Sparrow Ionia Hospital’s president & CEO. “This generous matching donation is a linchpin of our capital campaign, and we’re grateful to Independent Bank for taking a leading role in our push to raise local dollars for the project.”
