GRAND RAPIDS. Mich. -- Hoping to piggyback off the huge success of last year's "ALS Ice Bucket Challenge," a new social media challenge is tackling the debilitating effects of Lyme disease.

It's called the "Take a Bite Out of Lyme Disease" challenge.  If you're challenged, you're asked to state one fact about Lyme disease, eat a lime, challenge three other friends, and donate $10.

If you choose not to eat the sour fruit, you're asked to donate $100 to Lyme disease awareness and train doctors on treating patients.

Lyme disease is most often contracted through a tick bite, and every year 300,000 new cases are diagnosed in the United States.  Because it's so difficult to diagnose, its symptoms and side effects are often disguised as ALS, MS, arthritis, and many other debilitating diseases.
