WALKER, Mich. - After nearly getting his paw ripped off from a hunting trap, Chuck the dog has been getting a lot of attention over the past few months.

He was found wandering in a Grand Rapids neighborhood with a trap on his leg and veterinarians in the area didn't think he was going to make it.

Officials believe Chuck had the trap on his paw for more than two weeks. He even fractured several teeth trying to get it off. But thanks to the care from Kelley's Heart to Heart Adoption Center, Chuck has made a full recovery and he's waiting to find his forever home.

For the past 2 months, Chuck's been undergoing daily cold laser and water therapy to help heal the tissue on his foot. Sari Campbell, Veterinarian Technician, said his recovery has been amazing to witness.

"I was gone for a week on vacation and when I came back it was just a miraculous change," said Campbell.

But Chuck has been in the kennel for so long, he's developed 'happy tail,' where the end of his tail starts to wag so much, it hurts his tail.

"It constantly breaks open so we had to amputate the tail down to a safer length so he won't bang it so hard," said Campbell.

Chuck's damaged teeth have been removed and his tail should heal within the week. Now, he's waiting on the forever home he's fought so hard to find.
