SIDNEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Michigan State Police are investigating the death of an 80-year-old man in Montcalm County.

According to a release from Michigan State Police, Alan Nelson was found dead at his residence in the 500 block of Nelson Drive in Sidney Township.

Police say evidence at the scene indicates that Nelson’s death is a homicide, and his home, as well as two neighboring ones and one down the block on Nelson Drive, were broken into.  According investigators, the homicide occurred between Sunday, March 29 and Monday, March 30.

Several neighbors told FOX 17 they were frightened and deeply saddened to lose one of their long-time friends. They said Nelson’s family had owned much of the land on the north side of Nevins Lake for years, where his home is located. Neighbors each said Nelson was a very nice man, who would take his wife on a pontoon boat on Nevins Lake.

Nelson’s exact cause of death was not released.  Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Michigan State Police Lakeview Post at 989-352-8444, or the Silent Observer at 866-774-2345.
