GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A woman drove into a building Sunday afternoon causing a gas leak after she tried reaching for her purse, police say

When Police initially responded to a report of a car striking a building, they found a woman had driven her vehicle into a building in the 600 block of Stocking Ave. NE.  Reportedly the home of a local catering company.

The crash reportedly caused a gas leak inside the building.  Police temporarily shut down roads in the area Sunday afternoon.

Police on scene told Fox 17 that the woman had become distracted while driving when she tried to reach down to the floor of her car for her purse.  She reportedly lost control of her vehicle and then struck the side of the building.

The car was not immediately removed from the side of the building because of the gas leak inside.  Once the leak was able to be checked out and secured, the area was reopened to traffic.
