GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The busy intersection of Michigan Street at Fuller Avenue in Grand Rapids will close Saturday, April 11 for up to two weeks. The intersection badly needs replacement of crumbling concrete pavement.

During a public meeting, at least one business owner expressed displeasure at the closure as opposed to a longer period with lane closures. Several conditions were considered in the final decision, such as interference with other road construction nearby and the availability of construction crews.

“Yes, it’s a bit of an inconvenience,” said Grand Rapids Traffic Safety Manager Chris Zull. “It’s kind of come up as a priority.”

North-south traffic on Fuller Avenue will need to use Diamond Avenue or Plymouth Avenue between Leonard Street and Fulton Street. East-west traffic will have to use Leonard Street or Fulton Street between Diamond Avenue and Plymouth Avenue.

Traffic coming off I-196 will be able to go north on Fuller Avenue but not south.

The city released a map of recommended detours and a map of the routes that two Rapid routes will take during the closure.
