COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. -- The West Michigan Whitecaps had been waiting long enough to get baseball started in 2015 to not get a win.

Zach Shepherd's two-run single and Will Maddox's RBI knock in the eighth inning rallied the Whitecaps to a 5-4 win over the Dayton Dragons on Opening Night at Fifth Third Ballpark.

Ross Kivett also added three hits and drove in two runs.

West Michigan and Dayton play a double-header on Saturday. The first of the two seven-inning games starts at 1:00 p.m.
