Police: Assault suspect picked up following Saturday shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Mich. – A 49-year-old man is in police custody following an altercation in which police say a handgun was fired.

Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1300 block of Avenue A around 12:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

It was determined after arriving on scene that the shooting happened after two men had gotten into an altercation, with one of the men brandishing a handgun and firing at the other.  The suspect then allegedly fled in a vehicle.

After an initial investigation, police were able to locate the suspect’s residence and speak to a female that lived there.  They searched the residence and were able to find the suspected firearm.

The suspect was lodged at Calhoun County Jail for:

  • Assault with Intent to Commit Great Bodily Harm
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
