Almost 2,000 dead from huge Nepal quake

NEPAL — A major and devastating earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has struck the country of Nepal in southern Asia. Preliminary reports indicate as many as 1,805 are feared dead with another 4,718 injured.

This is said to be the worst such quake in more than 80 years. Nepal is in the Kathmandu Valley, a mountainous region that is tectonically active and has seen quakes before. Several high magnitude aftershocks are still occurring. The image attached to this story offers a “birds-eye” view of where the epicenter is and the location of Nepal.
