Pearl Street at US-131 in Grand Rapids to be closed for 3-month project

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Pearl Street interchange at US-131 in Grand Rapids will get complicated beginning May 11. But the ramps to and from US-131 will remain open during the entire project.

Pearl St Phase 1 detours

Pearl St Phase 1 detours May 11 – May 31

The three-phase reconstruction project will close sections of Pearl Street from May 11 through July:

  • Phase 1, May 11 – May 31 – Construction in the western part of the intersection of Pearl Street and Mt. Vernon Avenue, which runs parallel to US-131. Eastbound detour: north on Seward Avenue, east on Bridge Street, south on Mt. Vernon Avenue. Westbound detour: north on Scribner Avenue, west on Bridge Street, south on Seward Avenue.
  • Phase 2, June 1 – June 22 – Rebuild Pearl Street under US-131 bridge. Eastbound detour: south on Mt. Vernon Avenue, east on Front Street, north on Front Avenue past the Grand Rapids Public Museum. Westbound detour: north on Scribner Avenue, west on Bridge Street, south on Mt. Vernon Avenue.

  • Phase 3, June 22 – July 27 – Rebuild Pearl Street from US-131 ramps to the Grand River. Eastbound detour: south on Mt. Vernon Avenue, east on Fulton Street, north on Monroe Avenue. Westbound detour: South on Monroe Avenue, east on Fulton Street, north on Seward Avenue.

Pearl St Phase 3 detours June 22 to July 27

Further improvements are planned as a separate streetscape project that will likely continue into 2016. That project is still in the planning stage.
