WEST MICHIGAN — While the Central and Southern Plains are experiencing their fifth straight day of severe weather with damaging winds, large hail, and violent tornadoes, the Mid-Atlantic states are seeing the first named Tropical Storm (Ana) of the season with heavy rain, erosional surf, and wind. Michigan may get in on the action, specifically on Monday, when a strong cold front slides through the state. The primary threat would be strong, damaging straight line winds and large hail. While a tornado cannot be ruled out, it is a lesser threat this time around.

As it stands, locations from Grand Rapids to the south/east are currently in a “slight risk” for severe weather on Monday. If things begin to look more favorable, or we break out in to some brief sunshine on Monday and can destabilize the atmosphere a bit, our chances for severe storms will increase. Make sure to stay up on later forecasts and check the SPC convective outlook page here.

Once the cold front slides to our east on Monday, sharply cooler air and breezy conditions will filter in for Tuesday with highs generally stuck in the 50s! Get the complete West Michigan forecast at www.fox17online.com/weather.
