HATTIESBURG, Miss.–Two police officers are dead following a shooting Saturday night.

Officials believe that two men gunned down the Hattiesburg Police Officers–Benjamin J. Deen, 34, and Liquori Tate, 25–during a traffic stop. Authorities said the suspects took off in an officer’s car, which was later found abandoned.

Both officers were taken to the hospital, and later pronounced dead.

Local news stations in Hattiesburg reported that both men suspected in the shooting, Curtis and Marvin Banks, were arrested early Sunday morning.

A newspaper in Jackson reported that the last killing of a Hattiesburg police officer was on New Year’s Eve 1984. It also reported that Tate was a recent graduate from the police academy, and that Deen was a K-9 officer who was named the city’s Officer of the Year in 2012.

This just breaks my heart. These two officers are out there doing their job and look what happens. OMG could you Imagine if the circumstances were reversed the amount of demonstrations and riots that would be going on ? I’m sure these officers were afraid to shoot at these young men in fear of retribution .

@linda… Unfortunately, I don’t think these officers had time to shoot back as this was an ambush. Cops need to continue doing their jobs and shooting when they deem necessary. RIP brave officers. Thank you for your service.

Did you hear about that guy who tried to join ISIS and they turned him down because he’s too crazy and too brutal for them? So he returned to U.S.A. and joined his local police department, where, and he fits right in.

ELECTRIC CHAIR for these two cowardly criminal brothers. Previous drug and weapons charges? LOSERS. We don’t need them. Quick death is too good for them.
